Personality & Traits

General Overview Softspoken, approachable and friendly, though prone to moodswings and episodes of introspective silence, bordering on depression. Her general approachable and friendly nature belies a wounded soul that prefers to keep people at a distance and would rather curl up with a good book than attend any parties. Those who do break through her walls though would find one of the most loyal officers in Starfleet, one who would go through hell and back for those she calls friends.
Strengths & Weaknesses + Sharp senses and keen, tactical instincts
+ Hardworking
+ Physically very strong
+ Fiercely loyal

- Difficult to get to open up
- Dislikes gatherings of people, social functions, parties
- Sometimes has difficulties negotiating Human social standards
- Holds herself to an almost impossible standard
Ambitions To redeem herself in her own eyes. What this means and what this would look like, she doesn't know.
Hobbies & Interests Mercy appreciates a good book, though romance stories make her sad. She prefers fantasy and adventure stories with larger-than-life heroes.

Like all security and tactical officers she is trained in the use of many kinds of weapons and keeps herself in shape by working out a lot. As a Sirran this naturally includes a lot of strength training.

She is a highly skilled woodworker, specialising in the more practical aspects; creating furniture and children's toys.

Personal History On Sirran biology:

The Sirran are tall and powerful wolf-like humanoids from Sirrah II, near the edge of the Beta quadrant. An typical adult male Sirran stands between 8'3" and 8'9" tall and can weigh upwards of 670 pounds, with female Sirran being slightly smaller. Their senses are what one would expect; keen hearing and smell with average visual acuity. Their large, triangular ears are mobile and can turn in the direction of sound. Finally, they are armed with appropriately sized claws and sharp teeth. They are considered mature at around 35 standard Federation years and have an average lifespan of around 160 to 165 standard Federation years.

On Sirran society:

The Sirran society is a socialist matriarchal meritocracy. Social standing is earned by giving to society and the creation of goods that benefit society is held in high regard. The weaker members of society are cared for and protected. The creation of life is held in very high regard, and mothers are celebrated. The democratically elected Matriarchal Tribunal consists entirely of mothers, and is led by a single grandmother who holds authority to swing hung votes.

It was not always like this, though. It wasn't that long ago, relatively, that Sirrah was gripped by late stage capitalism and ruled by oligarchs. However, a violent uprising from the people, a little over a century ago by Federation reckoning, led to a brutal civil war that saw over a million dead and the deposing of dictators and oligarchs. When the dust settled there was a deep sense of mourning for the loss of it all, and a strong set of new laws was established that this could never happen again.

While friendly to the Federation, the Tribunal has no desire to extend existing trade agreements into a full-blown membership. While Sirran leaving their home world to seek out their fortunes elsewhere is not unheard of, it is not a very common occurrence and to see a Sirran serving in Starfleet is unusual.

On Mercy:

73 years ago, by Federation reckoning, a newborn Sirran girl took her first breath in the Sirran capital Monsegvry. Her parents, a school teacher and a mechanic, named her Sera, meaning the first light of dawn. Sera grew up an only child, and - while her family was not particularly wealthy - she wanted for nothing.

Growing up, she befriended a young male Sirran she went to school with, named Marron. The two of them started spending more and more time together, getting into trouble together and falling in love. Eventually, after they finished school, they married and Sera gave birth to a daughter that they named Turri.

Their bliss would not last, however. During Turri's seventh year of life she, Marron and Sera would get into an accident that saw Turri and Marron lose their life. Wracked with guilt about not having been able to prevent their deaths and having lost the one thing that gave her a sense of duty in life, Sera abandoned her name, her society and her planet.

Hitching rides in exchange for doing odd jobs, the young Sirran went by many names. Eventually she found herself in a bar fight that had broken out after a patron started abusing a waitress. The patron called out for mercy right before she threw him through a window, which lead to the patron's death. After this she took the name Mercy and has gone by this moniker ever since.

Now feeling she couldn't continue like this, that she had to turn her life around, she applied to Starfleet. Her Sirran nature, keen mind and senses made her a natural for the security and tactical track, a course she passed with flying colors. After getting her commission to Ensign she was stationed on the brand new Akira class USS Acadia.

Then the Dominion war broke out. During one fateful battle the ship was attacked and boarded by the Jem'Hadar. The crew of Acadia saw heavy fighting in the corridors, trying to fight off the boarding parties. Mercy herself took out a handful of Jem'Hadar in closer quarters combat, though was left grievously injured and on death's door. The Acadia's doctor however, managed to save Mercy's life and the two became close friends.

Now, after war's end, with the Acadia undergoing extensive repairs and refit, Mercy starts the new chapter in her life on the brand new Galaxy class USS Venture.
